Flapper Valve
If you’re using a blowout preventer designed to seal on a specific rod size, or range of sizes, the unit simply cannot prevent a blowout with no rod in place. It lacks the capability to “close on zero.” (Many Double E blowout preventers offer rams that can seal completely whether or not there’s a rod in the hole.) The same holds true for stuffing boxes, whose packing needs something to seal against.
What you need in either case is the Double E Type R Flapper Valve. This efficient and economical device — sometimes called an “environmental blowout preventer” features a spring-loaded flapper incorporating a durable composite roller that contacts the polished rod during normal pumping operations. The roller protects both the polished rod and the flapper from wear. Should the rod break, the spring and upward thrust of the well bore pressure will immediately close the flapper and seal the well.
Available for sour service and delivering a 3,000 psi working pressure, the Double E Type R Flapper Valve can be used independently or in combination with a stuffing box or BOP. In addition, this flapper valve can be ordered with an integrated stuffing box. |
