Completion Equipment
Double E manufactures a complete line of Standard, Gas Line, and Concentric
Packers, plus casing cups to fit up to
13-3/8 inch casing.
Standard & Gas Line Packers
Our
Standard and Gas Line packers are designed to shut off perforations and
casing leaks. There are no requirements for setting them other than lowering
to the desired depth.* Two packers will straddle a casing leak and seal
off a bad section of casing or a perforation. Assembled as part of the
tubing string, they have no effect on setting completion packers or anchors.
When the section of leaking casing is short, one joint of tubing will
usually suffice. When the leaking section is long or its exact location
is unknown, several joints of tubing and pipe can be installed between
the packers. Differential pressures cause the cups to seal against the
casing; the cups can be turned to face in either direction.
Gas Line packers differ from Standard Packers in providing a second pipe
through the cups as a bypass for venting gas or fluid.
Concentric Packers
Double
E Concentric Packers are generally used to shut off one or more sets of
perforations in order to produce from other zones, but can also be used
to straddle casing leaks. In sealing off a section of the casing annulus,
they provide a large bypass through their inner and outer strings, making
it easy to run the assembly through fluid. The bypass allows the annulus
to remain open, thus preventing gas-lock of the pump; it can also be used
to supply gas to flow valves below the packers in gas-lift wells.
Each Concentric Packer consists of two packer segments joined by outer
string pipe long enough to straddle the perforated zone. Since the cups
have initial interference in the casing, there are no requirements for
setting these packers other than lowering to the necessary depth.*
* Scraping older casing and milling sharp perforations will help protect the cups' rubber sealing lips when tripping in or out of the well.
